Upcoming changes in Hancock County Common Pleas Court

May 28, 2024

As you are already aware, there are significant changes coming to the Hancock County Common Pleas Court later this year. At the end of this year, Judge Reginald J. Routson will be retiring and a new judge will be elected. Additionally, Magistrate Robroy Crow will be retiring at the end of September. Both Judge Routson and Magistrate Crow have served the Court and the community with distinction for many years and they will be missed. Finally, the Domestic Relations Division of the Court will be relocating into the new Judicial Center along with the Juvenile and Probate Courts, as well as the Adult Probation Department.

At this time, we will not be hiring a new magistrate to replace Mag. Crow before the end of the year. Rather the vacancy will be addressed after the new Common Pleas Court Judge has been elected. We are taking steps to ensure that the cases that are handled in the Domestic Relations Court will continue to move forward and the needs of the parties addressed. If you know of anyone that may have interest in being considered for a magistrate's position, please have them send a letter and resume to the Court, attention Kim Switzer.

Although most of us do not like change, times such as these do afford opportunities to address other areas where changes would be beneficial. If you have any suggestions or concerns that the Court should consider or address during this time, please do not hesitate to bring them to our attention. You may forward those to us directly, or you may forward them to Court Administrator Kim Switzer.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
